Stretching for more than 3km along a shallow, gently curving bay,
the village of HOPKINS is home to around a thousand Garífuna people.
Garífuna Settlement Day, on November 19, is celebrated enthusiastically
here, and at other times it's a pleasant place to spend a few days
relaxing, with food and accommodation in all price ranges - you can also
rent kayaks, windsurf boards and bicycles. Many hotels can arrange trips
to the reef and cayes further out; for diving , check with Second Nature
Divers (tel & fax 523-7038, divers@btl.net ), based in Sittee River , a
few kilometres south of Hopkins. To check the latest developments in
this fast-changing destination visit the village's own website
